Supersonic Electronic Invitational 3 group show

Kindred. 6" x 8". Acrylic, Colored Pencil & Crayon on Wood. © 2013

I apologize for the late post*.

I had this small piece (this might be an actual size on your screen) in a great group show
that opened last night in San Francisco - 3rd Annual Supersonic Electronic Invitational group show,
at Spoke Art gallery, organized/curated by Zach Tutor of Supersonic Electronic art blog!

This was the last piece I started during my pregnancy and finished after the baby was born,
and definitely my latest piece - it hasn't been really easy working on finished pieces since the baby,
since I can only spare maybe an hour (2 if I'm really lucky) every day or two.
Maybe as the baby gets older I'll be able to get some more time to work, but so far her erratic sleep
and feeding schedule take precedence.

If you're in/near San Francisco, or are going to be in the next few weeks, please don't forget to visit
the show while it lasts - it's got a fantastic roster of amazing artists, among whom I'm so honored to be.

You can find all the information here on their facebook page : https://www.facebook.com/events/761970223831851/

If you're remote, you can view the pieces here**.

** unfortunately (or fortunately, for me) my piece above has sold already.
but the prints of it are available here on my webshop!

Small Originals Holiday Studio Sale!

it's that time of the year!

i'll be having an annual Small Originals Sale this Saturday!

2pm EST, Saturday December 14th

Shop.stellaimhultberg.com

not too many this year, due to baby/pregnancy, but probably 10-15, maybe even more,
if i decide to put up some quick watercolor studies as well.

New Prints + Upcoming Holiday Studio Sale

{{ NEW PRINTS & Limited Edition Print Sale }}

It's been a while since my last post - since then, we home-birthed a baby girl a month ago,
and just like they always say, our lives have been turned upside down (in a good way!)

Now, one month later, I've finally added some new prints for the first time in a while.
There are 3 new prints, based on popular requests : Azurely (2011), Sadra (2013), & Hemera (2013).

Also there are a couple Hand-embellished Limited Edition prints (only a couple left) that I have put on sale at $20+ off!

Please note that there are a couple prints that have been sold out/phased out and will no longer be available.

{{ Small Originals Studio Sale }}

My 4th annual Small Originals Sale is coming soon!
I'm thinking of the first or second weekend (Saturday) of December - unfortunately, due to pregnancy and baby, I don't have a lot this year.
It will most likely be be around 8-12 pieces, mostly graphite drawings.

Please check back for detailed info in a week or two!

In My Autumn. 8.75" x 11.75". Graphite & watercolor on Paper. © 2013.

sorry for the late notice - i have this drawing above at A Magical Land group show
that opened yesterday at Leanna Lin's Wonderland in Eagle Rock, Los Angeles - curated
by the super talented Michelle Romo of Crowded Teeth (who makes the cutest things)!

Leanna Lin's Wonderland
5024 Eagle Rock Blvd
Los Angeles, CA 90041
+ please contact the gallery for inquiries on the piece above!

as for the upcoming shows, i am soon due with a baby (in the next 3-4 weeks!)
so i won't be adding many shows in the future.

i do plan on doing another holiday sale around thanksgiving/xmas time (somewhere in between),
with some sketches and drawings to clear out of the studio space.

i'll be in Supersonic Electronic's annual invitational group show in January at Spoke Art (SF) - and i'm working on a small painting for it that i'm trying to finish up before the baby comes :

Small piece on wood in progress... #wip
Things in progress... (All at once, yes)
Slow slow progress...

other than that, and a couple more prints on the way, i might not have much coming for a while!
please check my shop for other availabilities in the mean time, if you are interested in anything. :)

thank you!

Studio Sale 2013

newly spiffed up design too! :D
as i mentioned in my last post, i will be offering these small pieces for sale in my shop this week!

i actually labored for many hours with coding this new design over the weekend,
(though it doesn't look like much), but i like it much better - cleaner and simpler looking!

several people have bought from the batch via email, and unfortunately, most of the drawings
people asked a lot about (like the one on the top left up there) are sold.

also gone are the early-bird special free shipping, i apologize.
thanks to those that emailed me for first dibs and gave my works nice homes!
mind you, since they're all nicely framed, international shipping is quite high.
(please contact me separately via the shop if you'd like to know more details).

these little ones  (and some not so little ones) will go on sale, starting at :

2pm EST, THURSDAY, AUGUST 8th, 2013
http://shop.stellaimhultberg.com

please check back early if you'd like early dibs!
otherwise, i'm pretty sure there will be something left for everyone.

+ also, i'm planning on another studio sale of smaller, less-finished pieces (unframed)
in a month or so.
mostly because i am not sure if i can do a holiday time sale this year due to the baby.
i'll let you know ahead of time when i do!

thank you for reading.

Daydreamers : 2-person Show, Compound Gallery. May 2013.

Daydreamers. 2-person show. Flyer image.
another massively backlogged entry here - my one big show for the year was back in May, Daydreamers, at Compound Gallery in Portland, OR - a 2-person show alongside the sweetest new artist,  Suite Charlie.

i created a lot of smaller, fun artworks that are different than my usual larger-ish paintings for many reasons, for this show, but mostly because i knew/remembered that the gallery is on the smaller side.
but i feel that i ended up creating way more than i thought i needed to (slight drama leading up to the show : the initial artist dropped out a month before the show so i thought i had to fill out the gallery).

Daydreamer show. Installation view.
installation view : my Nantarka series wall to the left, and Suite Charlie's wall to the right.

below are my pieces for the show - and most of these pieces will be available soon via my shop!
(although you may email me before i post them, if you see something you like).

{ amazing pieces by Suite Charlie above }

this show was one of the roughest shows to pull off, mentally, perhaps.
although everything is small in this show it wasn't the easiest show to work on as far as non-art matters went. the initial artist the curator at the gallery had set for the show dropped out at the last minute, then i was asked to find another artist for them or do a solo there, to my horror... which is why i ended up overdoing the number of pieces, thinking i had to fill out the walls (never a good reason).
but in the end, i did do a lot of fun works that were small and more experimental (like the last few watercolors up there), and i had a lot of fun being in portland and meeting lots of cool people - especially suite charlie, who i knew from instagram, turning out to be such a genuinely sweet, talented young artist, making it all better and worthwhile! still i have mixed feelings about this show after all these months have passed - ah well!

i'm probably going to be creating maybe one more new work from here on out this year... although there are still some more shows left in the year for me - mostly because of this little big news... :)

In the Process : Sketchbook Show, May 2013

Sketchbook spread 1. Sketchbook spread 2. Sketchbook spread 3.
Sketchbook spreads 1, 2, & 3. 10"x7". Mixed Media on Watercolor Paper. © 2013.

first, apologies (if anyone is out there reading) for this much much belated post/update for this year's shows - i'm months late on this.

these above pieces were my contribution to my friend Monica Choy's show she curated at Hellion Gallery in Portland, OR - In the Process,  a group show of artists' sketchbook pages!
i had a lot on my plate at the time, but i couldn't pass up a sketchbook show - my favorite kind of art!
she even sent out this amazing hand-made accordion sketchbooks for artists to fill them with, but alas, my first attempt at this (6-page spread finished sketchbook) was lost in the mail. :(

it looked something like this : Finally used some of my carved stamps on @choybot 's handmade sketchbook - thanks Monica!
cover - with my stamp prints. Accordion sketchbook (handmade by @choybot!) for a sketchbook show next month - my most favorite thing to work on to date!!
one view of the accordion.

anyway, i mourned the loss a bit but quickly re-made the above version with my own paper (which wasn't as good as the original nor was it bound into a nice sketchbook) at the last minute, after wrapping up this show in the same town (across the street, actually). but oh man, did i thoroughly enjoy this show - and the opening too!!!

hopefully the lost one, somewhere out there in this universe, landed in some nice appreciating person's hand, or will come back to me one day. or it's probably been decomposed into worm meal already. -_-
either way, it's the journey that counts, right?

some coverage of the show here :

HiFructose coverage of In the Process
you can view more opening night photos on the actual Hi Fructose website page - HERE!

+ edit : some images from the show my husband took below :

with sweet monica, the curator extraordinaire who put together the show (i've known her since 07!)

the wall with my works & amazing accordion fold out by Souther Salazar (how i intended mine to be displayed too before it got lost in the mail  T__T) below my framed pieces.

we were having too much fun at this show to have taken any more photos! yikes.
there are more photos in the hifructose link above, though.

Art Collector Starter Kit at Corey Helford Gallery, March 2013

In Between. 12"x12". Mixed Media on Wood. © 2011.

this is an older piece i sent out for the Art Collector Starter Kit group show at Corey Helford Gallery/CHG Circa back in March (!!). they asked the pieces to be 12"x12" and i had this piece at hand from 2011.

i had a soft spot for this piece, i felt like i was able to get a little closer to what i want to say... so to speak. i'm glad it went to a good home now.

Some peeks of the process :
Taking too long to finish... And losing steam. Doodling this instead of finishing the painting. Peek of the little pieces for the May show (in Portland). Last night's hairy mess. Part of my lil series getting ready to be shipped out to Portland. And these hairy people too (going out to PDX - peek of the Daydreamers show, May 2) Accordion sketchbook (handmade by @choybot!) for a sketchbook show next month - my most favorite thing to work on to date!! The other side of the accordion sketchbook for a show in may in Portland.

So this is it for a while!

i'll be taking a small break this year from gallery shows (except for a couple more group shows in the fall**)
for some personal time and focusing on some other projects mostly - so please check my Facebook/twitter/instagram/blog
for that if you want to know what's going on...
It'll be a very wabi-sabi kind of process, if that makes any sense - going with the flow of things
- there is an image but no particular plans, so to speak.

i will hopefully be keeping up more with my shop with small originals and prints,
and maybe some other products (perhaps a new shop too?!!) instead.

See you in Portland!!!

** ok i lied, i realized that i'm in another group show in Philly, May 11th, with Thinkspace Gallery curating for Gallery 309 - although it'll be my older pieces.

celebrating the year of the snake for 2013.
so glad to start the new year in such good company (in spirit, at least).
the show opens tomorrow, and runs till February 20th.

Feb 2 - 20th, 2013
Opening Saturday, February 2nd, 2013

Serpentine. 9.25" x 11.75". Watercolor and Acrylic on Tea-stained Paper. ©2013.

i've been painting a lot with watercolor lately, and having been wanting to get some tea-stained pieces done,
i decided to start with the first piece of 2013. hopefully i portrayed enough of the snakiness in an abstract way.

happy new year (belated for 2013, early for Lunar new year next weekend)!!!

Another Mini Shop Sale on Saturday!

{{ 2nd/Mini Studio Sale }} this Saturday, December 15th, 2PM eastern time!

thanks for "coming" for a peek or a purchase for my last studio sale a couple weekends ago!
i was so surprised at how fast they flew off the shelf, thanks to you all.

so i'm having another super low budget sale this weekend - very last minute but hope you can make it!

Saturday, December 15th
2pm EST

this time, it will be mostly post-it notes for those who couldn't make it to Giant Robot's
8th annual post-it drawing show in LA, or for those who did go there but didn't end up procuring one
after standing in line for hours!

because of the scanning/packing/shipping process, the post-its will be $30-35 instead, but hopefully
that will still remain affordable originals for many (cheaper than some of my prints!).

i'll also have a few ink study pieces and maybe a half finished study painting listed as well.
thank you and "see" you this weekend in the shop!

Studio Sale this Saturday!

my Annual { Holiday Studio Small Originals Sale } will be on Saturday, December 1st (instead of Black Friday) - bit too many works this year though hopefully I'll have enough to maybe hold another one the Friday after... Please check shop.stellaimhultberg

i'll be holding my annual Small Originals Studio Sale (like in '10 & twice in '11) this saturday!

Saturday, December 1st
2pm EST

although due to many personal tasks i had to tend to this year, i don't that many pieces as in the
past - but probably around 15-20 pieces, perhaps - so please mark your calendars!

i might be doing another small sale the weekend after, of post-it notes for those who can't make it to
Giant Robot's 8th annual post-it drawing show (where each piece is $25, cash-and- carry) in LA.

................................................................................................................

also some new products i forgot to mention here!

before starting all the pieces for this show, i'd been making a lot of stuff (as opposed to drawing/painting) for personal projects - which surprisingly made it hard for me to start painting, as if my head was stuck in a 3D rut. so as a compromise, i made these wooden shapes, so i felt like i was sculpting (though flat), while still painting. thus was born this Ikiryo Series.

20 Pieces of Dreams, group show

20 Pieces of Dreams, group show at GR2!

opening this saturday is this amazing show that i'm so sad to be missing out on (for not being there),
celebrating young Sena's 20th birthday (curated by her awesome mom!)

Mari gathered 11 of her friends, along with herself and Sena, to round up a group show consisting of
20 works total (one each from all the friends, and 9 from mother & daughter).
what a really amazing way to celebrate a daughter's birthday!!

and here's my piece for the show :

i know i have yet to upload the last show's batch of works (i just have to edit them first),
but here is my last piece of the year!
i made this piece at the same time i did the wood cut works for that show, though just finished recently for this one.
it was fun to use the negative space/shape and work in delicate shapes for once...
and inspired me to make some textile works (in the future, still in the works).

the title Crescere is a latin word meaning to grow - i remember being 20 and feeling like anything is
possible, with the whole future wide ahead of me. i hope Sena's 20s will be even more growing and fulfilling for her!

hope you get to go to this awesome party of a show, and enjoy all the fun works in an intimate setting of GR2! :)
